Heritage Week Mini Lectures

As part of Heritage Week 2017 Carlow Historical & Archaeological Society are presenting 2 mini lectures, beginning with a homage to Carlow’s greatest painter, Frank O’Meara; and followed by a celebration of the heritage of Carlow’s railway.

The first lecture of the evening is presented by Carlovian Art Historian Mary Stratton Ryan and is titled; ‘Homage to Carlow’s Greatest Artist’, Frank O’Meara 1853-1888. This lecture is in honour of Internationally recognized artist Frank O’Meara, a talented pioneer painter and one of the founders of the Grez colony of plein–air painters, based in Grez sur loing, France.

The second lecture will be presented by Paul Curran who will discuss the history of the Carlow railway station and the staff associated with it over the years. Paul has built a substantial collection of photographs of former staff and locomotives. The intention is to present them in date order and if anyone has any further photographs or stories they might bring them along or contribute on the night.

The lectures will take place on Wednesday 23rd of August at 8pm in Carlow College. Admission is free and all are welcome.
