Heritage Week 2018 Mini Lectures – Haddens and Michael Governey

On 22 August 2018 in St Patrick’s, Carlow College, Carlow the Heritage Week mini lectures had a family and literary flavour.


Avril Hogan spoke about the business managed by five generations of her family in ‘Haddens 1848-1976, Five generations of Retailing in the South East’. Her research was the subject of her recent book ‘Hadden’s 1848-1976’.


Eugene Carbery gave a talk on the life, politics and business of his maternal grandfather, ‘The Life of Michael Governey’. He launched his book ‘Michael Governey (1852-1924) in November 2018.

As always the evening was very well attended and the audience was entertained and educated with the history of Haddens and Michael Governey.
