On the 23rd of August 2017 as part of Heritage Week 2017 Carlow Historical & Archaeological Society presented 2 extremely well attended mini lectures in Carlow College.
Firstly Carlovian Art Historian Mary Stratton Ryan gave an excellent talk entitled ‘Homage to Carlow’s Greatest Artist’, Frank O’Meara 1853-1888. This lecture is in honour of Internationally recognized artist Frank O’Meara, a talented pioneer painter and one of the founders of the Grez colony of plein–air painters, based in Grez sur loing, France.
The second lecture as presented by Paul Curran and discussed the history of the Carlow railway station and the staff associated with it over the years. Paul has built a substantial collection of photographs of former staff and locomotives and presented them in date order on the night.
